The organisation which your funds will support
MND Victoria is the first point of contact for people diagnosed with MND and the organisation has been providing care and support to people living with MND since 1981. The Association receives only around 25-30% of its funding from the Government, the balance has to be raised through a variety of fundraising activities. Last year we had to raise around $3.5 million to ensure that people with MND could access the care and support they need to enable them to live as independently as possible for as long as possible.
Since the organisation was established we have supported thousands of Victorians through:
- Information sessions for people recently diagnosed, their families and friends. These sessions provide information on the disease and how it might progress and gives information on ways to address difficult situations as they arise
- Support groups such as Living Well to help people as their disease progresses; Living Through to help families whose loved one died from MND in the previous 12 months and Living On for people whose loved one had died 12 months or more.
- Face to face support through MND Advisors who help people with MND, regardless of where they live in Victoria, preparing for their NDIS assessment or MyAged Care Assessment, as well as connect them to health care professionals and community support organisations.
- Provision of assistive technology devices such as hoists, manual and power wheelchairs, electric riser chairs and much more, all at no cost to the person living with MND.
